Lithenes

Lithenes are liquid hydrocarbon polymers of butadiene and are useful in a diverse range of applications:
  • rubber coagent for peroxide cured EPDM/EPR
  • automotive sealants
  • electrical potting and encapsulation
  • electro-deposition paints
  • co-curable plasticisers/process aids
  • adhesion promoter additives
  • modifiers for other resin systems
  • chlorinated rubber feedstock
  • sealants, e.g. ambient temperature cures

Lithenes can be cured via sulphur or peroxide systems to give either flexible or hard compositions. They can also be used to modify the processing or final properties of conventional elastomers with which they are co-curable.

Elastomeric materials, suitable as sealants and encapsulants, can also be formulated from Lithenes to which functional groups have been added via chemical modification; these cures can be carried out at ambient temperatures. With suitable chemical modification (e.g. via maleinisation), they can also be made water soluble or dispersible.
